On Saturday 13th February we flew over to Praslin to spend half-term away. The flight was amazing! We saw the coast of Mahé and the beautiful colours of the azure oceans. As we drew closer to Praslin we saw the sweeping sands of Grand Ansé before stopping the traffic to come into land at the small domestic air strip.
We took the bus from the airport to Chez Bea Luxury Villas, which cost us 5 SR each! The villas are a little hidden away. You must leave the bus at the Casino on the road coming into Cote D’Or. The Casino is a large landmark on the road and can’t be missed. Here there is a large turning on the left which heads into a residential area. If you follow this road for approximately 100m, there is a turning on the left and then another right hand turn shortly afterwards and you will see some pristine, newly built white villas.
First impressions are outstanding as you arrive, there are smart gates leading into a well-kept garden with a fountain and garden tables. Pierre the manager greets you kindly as you arrive offering a cool refreshing towel and beverage, this was much appreciated after our hot bus journey and walk to the villa.
Pierre is very efficient when you arrive, he ran through all of the paperwork for the arrival, but also supplied us with a map of the area, a bus timetable and information about how to get to see all of the sights on the island. We were then shown to our apartment.
The apartments are very spacious, we had use of one bedroom as there were only two of us, but there are two bedrooms if you are travelling in a group or as a family. The accommodation included a large well-equipped kitchen which had all the implements needed for cooking meals. There was a dining-room table, able to seat 6 people. As part of the open-plan living area there was also a sitting-room with a sofa and two armchairs and cable TV.
The bedroom was magnificent, the bed was certainly king-size, maybe even super! The bathroom had a much appreciated rain-shower.
Patio doors lead out to a garden area with a dining table, sunloungers and a clothes airer.
The apartment was very clean, we were provided with towels to use in the apartment and also at the beach. There was free WiFi throughout the apartment and villa site which is unusual in the Seychelles.
The location appears slightly off the beaten track, but is actually only a short 5-10 minute walk to the beach across the main road and through the woods fringing the Cote D’Or. The beach is a very long sweeping stretch, it is quite narrow, but offers safe swimming. As you wander further down towards the town there are more villas and hotels skirting the beach. In the centre there are many opportunities to book excursions to islands such as Curieuse and Cousin.
If you have opted for the self-catering option, as we did, there are many shops in Cote D’Or, however, be aware that some of these are quite expensive, so it could be worth stocking up on some items in Mahé or at Baie Ste Anne in the larger supermarkets before arriving.
One night we chose to dine at the restaurant at Chez Bea Luxury Villas. This option cost 20 euros each for a 3 course menu. Ours included soup for starter, fish for main and bananas in rum for pudding. We were thoroughly impressed with the presentation of each course, the efficiency of the kitchen and the service provided. For drinks a cocktail and a Seybrew beer, the drinks were all well-priced and cooled to refresh.
At night the gardens are lit up providing a chilled venue to sit with a drink and enjoy the quiet of the evening.
Our apartment was thoroughly cleaned each day as part of the service which was much appreciated after returning from a tough day on the beach. The location was very quiet and peaceful allowing you to fully relax. From the villas we were able to easily use the bus to visit the main attractions on Praslin including Ansé Lazio and the Valleé de Mai where we were able to see the famous Coco de Mer. Overall we would fully recommend Chez Bea Luxury Villas and hope to return in the near future.
